Strenghtening the Aerospace Industry in Mexico

Mexico has become the ideal partner for the aerospace industry. Over the last 12 years, exports have grown over 15 times, from 270 million in 2001 to 4.5 billion in 2012, and it is expected to double within 5 years. A key factor behind this impressive growth is Mexico's Near-Shore platform facilitating the access to skilled labor, engineering, intellectual property protection, quality control and safety certification, especially for the manufacture of sensitive products to U.S. National Security as well as of the United Kingdom, Canada and France.

For all the advantages and ideal conditions set for the aerospace industry, Mexico has been a successful business partner selected by companies such as Bombardier, Eurocopter, Beechcraft, Cessna Aircraft, Bell Helicopter and Safran Group among others.

CESSNA AIRCRAFT

Cessna Aircraft Company and INTERMEX Industrial Parks executed in May 2010 a long term lease for a 43,882 M2 (472,345 Sq Ft) Campus located in the Chihuahua Industrial Complex in Chihuahua City. The Cessna Campus is fabricating metal structures assemblies for several models of Citation business jets in that campus.

Cessna decided to invest in Mexico in 2006 after realizing logistics cost and time of Chihuahua City, as compared to China, was way better. They toook advantage of the well developed and highly skilled labor force for complex wiring assemblies in the city of Chihuahua. From there, the natural next steps were metal sheet fabrication and structural composites applications. They now operate under Textron Aerospace de Mexico.

TEXTRON INTERNATIONAL DE MEXICO

Industrial conglomerate TEXTRON Inc. expanded part of its operations in Chihuahua City operating under Textron International MEXICO for the manufacturing and assembly of wire assemblies and cabins for some of its commercial helicopters. The opening of the 11,488 M2 (123,656 Sq Ft) Silver LEED facilities took place in June 23, 2010. This building was the first Silver LEED industrial building in Mexico and it is located along highway 45 at INTERMEX Carolina Industrial Park in the northern part of the city. This park features more than 43 acres of land. Textron International México invested more than US$85 million in equipment to manufacture the cabin, nose and tail sections of the Bell 429 and 407 Helicopters.

MANOIR AEROSPACE. A DIVISION OF MANOIR INDUSTRIES HEADQUARTERED IN PARIS, FRANCE.

Manoir Aerospace celebrated the opening of its first plant in Mexico, located in the city of Chihuahua, in December 2009. The products portfolio of the company include aluminum alloys, titanium alloys, copper, strategic steel and super alloys, metal matrix composite (MMC), manaurite alloys, micro alloyed, and steel and super alloys. Manoir Aerospace capabilities in its Chihuahua 2,871 M2 (30,903 Sq Ft) facility include: Machining Services, Non-Destructive Testing, Coatings Services, Engine Parts, Brake System Components, Hydraulic Actuators, and Aircraft Structural Components. This facility obtained Nadcap certification by December 2011.

Alain Jory-Barthe, president of Manoir Aerospace, pointed out that they decided to locate in Chihuahua because of the extraordinary support the State and local Governments provided to their project. He also cited the competitive advantages of the location, the qualified labor force, the training through the CENALTEC (Specialized Training Center) and the city's infrastructure. Special recognition was given to INTERMEX Industrial Parks for facilitating a soft landing through its Shelter Program and providing a built to suit brand new facility.

BEECHCRAFT

Beechcraft Corporation, formerly Hawker Beechcraft, opened its first Mexican facility on October 25, 2007 in Chihuahua City, Mexico. Back then, they employed 400 people dedicated to the manufacturing of light sheet metal assembly. Later on in February 24, 2011 they opened a second 180,000 sqft facility in the city of Chihuahua specialized on more complex sheet metal assembly for the company's King Air turboprops. According to Chairman and CEO Bill Boisture, "We have seen a high-level of quality and craftsmanship from the country's skilled work force and have great confidence in their ability to assume additional responsibilities in the manufacturing process". With the opening of this new facility and a state-of-the-art sheet metal fabrication facility, the company's footprint is nearly 500,000 square feet and employment has reached approximately 1,000 people.

INTERMEX is leasing a 9,698 M2 (104,389 Sq Ft) facility to Beechcraft on the Chihuahua Industrial Complex in the city of Chihuahua.

EMBRAER-ZODIAC

Zodiac has been operating in Chihuahua City since 2005 via its subsidiaries Air Cruisers, and Weber Aircraft. Main products being manufactured in Chihuahua are landing gear parts and emergency toboggans. In 2009, Zodiac invested 14 million USD to expand the Air Cruisers plant in Chihuahua, creating 300 additional new jobs to its 400 existing ones. In 2011, the seat manufacturer Weber set up business here, which created 250 new jobs for Chihuahua. The latest investment was part of the joint venture with Embraer to manufacture cabin interior panels and parts for the Embraer 170 and 190 commercial E-jets.

Embraer S.A. and Zodiac Aerospace agreement was reached in June 12, 2012. This jointly operated manufacturing facility reinforces a long-time successful partnership between Embraer and Zodiac Aerospace.

"This facility in Mexico will be used to manufacture interiors for our current family of E-Jets and new interiors for tomorrow's aircraft", said Arthur Coutinho, Embraer COO. "We have a long-standing partnership with Zodiac Aerospace, and are proud to establish this venture to manufacture new state of the art products which will have been co-developed by Embraer and Zodiac Aerospace and will maintain the excellent experience passengers have flying Embraer airplanes."

The establishment of an interiors facility in Mexico represents one more important step in Embraer's process of manufacturing globalization. Embraer today has industrial facilities in China, Portugal and, most recently, in the U.S., where the Company currently assembles the entry level executive jet Phenom 100. INTERMEX provides the building lease to this new joint venture.
