Pirelli adopts a further 100 hectares in Guanajuato

GUANAJUATO - Pirelli de México reinforced its commitment to the conservation of the environment by signing an extension to its agreement for the protection of the Cuenca de la Esperanza Protected Natural Area (ANP).
The Italian company will adopt an additional 100 hectares, bringing the total area under its protection to more than 150 hectares, with an investment of US$200.257.
Since 2013, Pirelli has worked on the conservation of this area, starting with the adoption of 20 hectares and progressively expanding its participation. By 2024, the company had allocated more than US$78,148 to the recovery of just over 50 hectares, through activities such as reforestation and ecosystem maintenance.
With this new expansion, the company will implement additional actions such as reforestation with native species, construction of curb ditches for water retention, installation of filter dams and maintenance of perimeter fencing for the protection of biodiversity.
The Cuenca de la Esperanza is a key ecosystem for Guanajuato, with significant biodiversity that includes endangered species such as the peregrine falcon and the great horned owl. It is also home to the La Esperanza dam, which provides approximately 8% of the annual water consumption for the city of Guanajuato.
The conservation of this space contributes to the recharge of the aquifers and the environmental balance of the region.
The signing of the agreement was attended by the CEO and General Manager of Pirelli Mexico, Enrico Verdino; Pirelli's North American Safety, Health, Environment and Sustainability Manager, Jorge Martín Martínez; and the Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, who highlighted the importance of this type of alliance to strengthen environmental protection policies in the state.
