Yucatan strengthens cooperation ties with Spain

Yucatán and Spain strengthened cooperation ties after a meeting between the state governor, Joaquín Díaz Mena, and the Spanish ambassador to Mexico, Juan Duarte Cuadrado, in which they agreed to continue promoting joint strategies in the areas of trade, tourism, water, health and sustainable mobility.
The state governor received the Spanish diplomat and his entourage to follow up on key projects that are being worked on jointly, with the objective of improving the quality of life of the state's inhabitants and exploring areas of opportunity to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
According to information from the state government, they discussed the project that the Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation (FCAS), in collaboration with the Indigenous Program of the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation, is implementing in Yucatan to improve these services in 10 communities in the municipality of Tekax, benefiting around 4,000 inhabitants.
The Action Plan for the Decarbonization of the Transportation Sector in Yucatan was also reviewed, carried out by the International and Ibero-American Foundation for Public Administration and Policy, with the aim of developing and encouraging public policies and institutional capacities in sectors such as justice, security, social affairs, environment, economy and finance.
“This joint work reflects the enormous potential for international cooperation that we have in the entity and reinforces the historical brotherhood we have with Spain,” assured the governor.
In his message, the head of the state executive said that the government of Yucatan is open to continue cooperating to reduce inequality in the state through actions that help transform the lives of Yucatecans.
In this sense, Diaz Mena indicated that this bilateral relationship will continue to be strengthened, since it adds to the Maya Renaissance project, which seeks that the best years for the Mayan people are the ones to come, through the modernization of the Port of Progreso, the arrival of the Maya Train to Progreso to favor the connection and commercial exchange with the east coast of the United States, the promotion of clean energy and the creation of welfare poles.
In this regard, the Spanish Ambassador to Mexico, Juan Duarte Cuadrado, affirmed that his delegation is committed to Yucatan and the Mayan Renaissance project, for which reason they are willing to continue contributing to the fight against inequality by strengthening water treatment and sanitation projects, clean energy and tourism.
