Halcón 2 is officially unveiled

Halcón 2, the first aircraft manufactured in Mexico, was unveiled. It was built by Horizontec in Celaya, Guanajuato, a fact that Marcelo Ebrard, head of the Ministry of Economy (SE), described as “historic” for Mexican aviation.
“Today, certificate 001 is being awarded to an aircraft manufactured and designed in Mexico. This is an aircraft made in Mexico, hence the 001. No aircraft had been produced in our country since at least 1957,” he emphasized.
At the event, the Secretary of Economy said that this project has taken 11 years of work.
“We are very pleased with this, as it marks Mexico's return to manufacturing its own aircraft,” Ebrard said.
The aircraft received the Light Sport Aircraft Type Approval Certificate, which certifies it as an aircraft of this type.
“This new aircraft, as you can see, is the new trend. The trend in aviation today is toward less complex aircraft with much more democratized designs, because until a few years ago, until very recently, all aircraft were from well-known brands that you recognize, and it was almost impossible to get an aircraft approved,” explained the federal official.
He assured that these types of aircraft are lighter and made with new materials, which reflects technological innovation, “and to give you an idea, this aircraft costs three times less than a used Cessna.”
The hourly operating cost, according to Ebrard, is almost four times less than any other aircraft.
“This is an aircraft that has considerable range, easily more than 1,000 kilometers, 1,100 kilometers, and its fuel consumption is the most efficient, that is, it is the lowest compared to all other aircraft,” he emphasized.
Mexico ranks 12th in the construction of fuselages, turbines, and aircraft electronics, added Marcelo Ebrard, which is why it is important for the country to have its own aircraft, for which it already has orders.
