A couple weeks after the Training Center of the new BMW plant was inaugurated, the Data Center became operational while the Body Shop is now in the tooling process, local media reported.
The Data Center hosts 3,000 servers, the most for a facility of the German automaker so far. Meanwhile, 45 robots and the conveyor belts are already installed at the Body Shop and ready for calibration, company officials revealed during a guided visit offered to media outlets from San Luis Potosi, where the facility is located.
The company expects the first finished body, consisting of the steel structure, without chassis, or moldings, equipment and finishes, to come out in the last days of February.
As for the logistics area, the building is also finished, it will be the tallest in the complex. The reception area for supplies has capacity to receive the 300 trucks that are expected to arrive daily at the plant.
The progress of the rest of the buildings is also noticeable, as is the case for the Paint Shop, whose building is also completed, while the machinery and equipment is about to be installed.
The painting area will have the capacity to apply up to 14 different colors to the 3 Series model through an automated process that has just received the "Prix de la Technique 2017" award in France.
All buildings are scheduled to be finished no later than the first days of March in order to begin complete production test runs during the second half of 2018. The first car of the 3 Series produced in San Luis Potosi is scheduled to roll out of the assembly line in February or March 2019.
