SuKarne could be sold for US$2 billion.

SuKarne, the largest meat exporter, is undergoing a sale evaluation that could value the company at more than US$2 billion.

The agency reported that the company is working closely with the investment banks Rabobank and BBVA during the process of the sale. Anonymous sources warn that the transaction is not guaranteed.

SuKarne and Rabobank have not responded to requests for comment, and BBVA declined to comment on the matter.

The animal protein industry in North America is dominated by the “big four” companies: Tyson Foods, Cargill, JBS (headquartered in Brazil), and National Beef Packing Co., but SuKarne’s operations have spanned everything from cattle feedlot operations to meat processing and distribution, offering a potential buyer access to a large part of Mexico’s protein supply chain.

Recently, the U.S. meat industry has been affected by the more-than-one-year ban on imports of Mexican cattle, which was intended to contain the New World cattle borer infestation, at a time when the domestic supply of cattle is falling to historic lows.

The suspension of imports helped push U.S. beef prices to record highs, hurting many sectors of the industry, such as Texas feedlots, which typically rely on Mexican cattle.

The United States has now begun a gradual reopening of the border to imports of Mexican livestock after determining that it was safe to resume trade.

In Mexico, the ban spurred investment in livestock feed and meat processing, which helped boost beef exports to the United States—a transition that companies like SuKarne helped facilitate.

SuKarne is a company based in Culiacán, Sinaloa, Mexico, where Jesús Vizcarra Calderón currently serves as chairman of the board and CEO, in addition to being one of the company’s majority shareholders.

The Mexican company accounts for nearly 75% of the country’s meat exports and has a presence on four continents and in more than 13 countries. In addition to being the main meat supplier for the country’s supermarket chains, its products are also found in various retail outlets in the United States.

Finally, it is worth noting that its operations encompass cattle feedlot operations, meat processing, and the distribution of products that include beef, chicken, and pork.
