Harman International, a technological solutions company for the automotive and consumer electronics sectors, officially opened its Design Center in Queretaro, where it will develop products in the divisions of Car Audio and Connected Cars according to the needs of Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM).
The facility occupies an area of 2,000 square meters in the business complex of Empresalia, where 180 engineers currently work, a figure that will increase to 220 over the medium term.
"We have shown that Mexican engineering is at the level of any other part of the world. We develop innovative products in audio, communications systems and the acoustic part of the vehicle with the development of systems that are like a suit tailored to the vehicle," said Abraham Garduño, director of Engineering at Harman during the opening ceremony.
The site required an investment of just US$ 1 million to start operations, but eventually more capital will be injected in order to have testing facilities with advanced laboratories.
From this Design Center, Harman supports eight manufacturers from North America and Asia, among which are Ford, Lincoln, General Motors, Toyota, Subaru and Harley Davidson, although it will also be able to serve others in Europe.
Garduño explained the work team designs and tests advanced technical products, which includes first-level amplifiers, speakers and navigation, communication and entertainment systems, known as infotainment.
Harman International owns three productions sites in Mexico, located one each in the cities of Tijuana, Juarez and Queretaro.
