STPS Negotiates Job Opportunities With Volkswagen

The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) has been negotiating the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) between the company's plant and its union. Due to the imminent strike, no agreement has yet been reached on the requested 17% wage increase, so the strike could be postponed if a resolution is not reached soon.

The Independent Union of Automotive Industry Workers at Volkswagen Mexico, led by Hugo Tlalpan, who represents more than 7,000 permanent employees, requested that 13% go directly to wages and 4% to benefits.

Labor representatives and representatives of the German automaker have continued talks at the offices of the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare (STPS) in Mexico City, seeking a wage counteroffer from Volkswagen for its permanent employees as part of the contract renegotiation. According to union sources, no such agreement has been reached yet.

At this time, the Volkswagen Workers' Union has yet to comment on the negotiations, as it has not received any concrete response; however, it reiterates that both sides are willing to resolve the matter.

By 2025, workers had already secured a 4% increase in that year’s wage review, reaching an agreement in the early hours of the last day of the strike notice. Since then, the union has made its position clear by taking the current economic context into account when presenting proposals as part of the collective bargaining agreement review.
