The Mexico Carbon Forum 2026 takes place in Aguascalientes
This September, the Mexico Carbon Forum 2026 was held, bringing together nearly 3,500 participants from companies, international organizations, universities, experts, and government officials.
Aguascalientes aims to leverage the development of carbon markets as a tool to strengthen business competitiveness, attract investment in environmental projects, and open new economic opportunities, at a time when emissions reduction is becoming an increasingly important factor in corporate and financial decision-making.
During the inauguration, Governor Tere Jimenez emphasized that Aguascalientes hopes to transition toward activities with a lower environmental impact. “Putting a price on carbon is changing the rules of the global economy and generating resources to finance new technologies, infrastructure, and projects capable of reducing emissions,” she said.
Eduardo Piquero, CEO of the Mexican Carbon Platform (MÉXICO2), highlighted the conditions Aguascalientes offers to companies seeking to move toward more sustainable practices. He noted that the state represents “a place where there are many opportunities, a place where companies are looking to the future and figuring out how to become more competitive.”
Aguascalientes has initiatives such as the Low-Carbon Seal Program and the Voluntary Carbon Market, as well as the State Climate Change Action Program. Guillermo Zamarripa, president of the Mexican Association of Retirement Fund Managers, noted the state’s work on sustainability and pointed out that these types of local strategies complement the national agenda.
The 2026 Mexico Carbon Forum featured conferences, panel discussions, and forums for dialogue on alternatives for coordinating economic activity and emissions reduction. The participation of companies, financial stakeholders, and experts positions the carbon market as a mechanism with the potential to channel resources toward technological innovation, infrastructure, and new projects, as well as to develop competitiveness options for companies.
