Guanajuato: A Model of Excellence in Foreign Trade

The Governor of Guanajuato, Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo, highlighted the state's potential and its trade relationship with the United States during her remarks at the 2026 Binational Convention, organized by The American Society of Mexico.

“Guanajuato competes on a global scale; we’re not talking about Guanajuato as a future prospect, because today it’s a state that competes in international markets,” said the governor.

The governor of Guanajuato highlighted the state’s competitive advantages, such as its connections to international markets, operational reliability, evolving talent pool, and forward-looking vision.

In the first quarter of this year, the state exported more than US$10 billion, representing a year-over-year increase of 9.8%. Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo explained that these exports come from 1,418 companies in Guanajuato, 78% of which are micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.

Today, products from Guanajuato are exported to 113 countries. The Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (COFOCE) is a specialized agency that works with companies to build capacity, open new markets, and compete globally; in this way, the state has strengthened its capacity.

During her remarks, the Governor highlighted Guanajuato’s location in central Mexico, which enhances its competitiveness by offering advantages in terms of time, cost, and reliability.

Similarly, the state is home to Guanajuato Puerto Interior (GPI), an example of a competitive ecosystem where industry, highways, railways, customs, an airport, services, and talent development all converge.

Guanajuato has become a model of excellent international trade relations, with a cumulative history of more than US$35 billion in investment from companies in 28 countries, supporting more than 232,000 jobs.
