Nuevo León Increases Its Automotive Exports in September
The automotive industry in Nuevo León maintains its position as the nation’s leading exporter, as 177,727 light vehicles manufactured in the state were shipped abroad between January and September 2026—a figure 10.3% higher than that recorded during the same period in 2025 and the highest export volume for a January–September period.
The results also reflect strong performance in September, when 20,783 light vehicles were exported, compared with 19,205 units in September 2025, representing a year-over-year increase of 8.2%.
Secretary of Economy Betsabé Rocha reported that this increase demonstrates the ability of the automotive industry in Nuevo León to produce and compete in international markets.
The United States maintained its position as the leading market for light vehicles manufactured in Nuevo León, accounting for 68.1% of exports between January and September 2026.
It was followed by Canada, with 6.9%; Colombia, with 5.6%; Poland, with 3.0%; and the Czech Republic, with 2.2%.
The increase in exports from Nuevo León contrasts with the trend observed nationwide.
In September, Mexican exports of light vehicles fell by 11.9%, while the year-to-date total from January through September showed a 1.5% decline.
Thus, while the country’s exports fell from 2,567,172 vehicles between January and September 2025 to 2,528,623 in 2026, Nuevo León’s exports rose from 161,195 to 177,727 units during the same period.
This export performance was accompanied by growth in light vehicle manufacturing.
Between January and September 2026, 232,500 units were produced in Nuevo León, an 8.7% increase compared to the 213,930 manufactured during the same period the previous year.
In September alone, 27,000 vehicles were produced, 3.6% more than in September 2025. Nationwide, production fell by 15.1% in September and by 2.4% year-to-date from January through September, according to INEGI data analyzed by the Nuevo León Ministry of Economy.
These production and export results reinforce Nuevo León’s presence in the automotive industry and its integration with international markets, primarily North America, the main destination for vehicles manufactured in the state.
