MANZANILLO — Recently was announced the expansion of the Manzanillo port towards the Cuyutlán Lagoon. The projected investment which is led by the pilot aviator Hector Mora, (with public and private participation), represents 66% of the resources that were allocated in the expansion of Veracruz to Vergara Bay.
Said investment involves four concessions, including a Specialized Container Terminal (TEC), with a dynamic capacity of 1.75 million TEUs per year
There are other three terminals which are expected to be agricultural, minerals and hydrocarbons bulk. The idea is to promote the capacity of the port which is the national leader in containerized cargo and ranks 3rd place in Latin America.
In addition, the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT) justified said expansion due to the dynamic growth of the site that only during the first five months of this year, recorded 13.5 million tons of cargo and 1.24 million TEUs, that is, 1.2% and 4.8% more compared to the same period last year, respectively.
