Acciona inks US$ 24.5 million deal to lay power distribution lines in Mexico

Spain-based energy firm Acciona announced it has been selected by Mexico's state-owned utility company Comision Federal de Electricidad (CFE) to build a power line from the Topolobampo III combined cycle power plant, involving four separate design and construction jobs —two transmission lines and two substations— in the states of Sinaloa and Sonora.

The two power lines, at voltages of 400 kV and 230 kV, will measure 276 kilometers (171.5 miles) in total, and the two substations will operate at those voltages.

This turnkey project, adjudicated for US$ 24.5 million, is headed by Acciona Industrial along with its Mexican subsidiaries, the company said in a statement.

The work comprises engineering, equipment installation for the lines and substations, civil engineering, electromechanical assembly, and commissioning. It is scheduled to be completed in March 2019.

This is the second assignment granted by CFE to Acciona. Two years ago, the company was selected to design and build a 117-kilometer (72.7 miles) 400 kV electrical grid to carry electricity from the Empalme II combined cycle power plant to the states of Sonora and Sinaloa.

The US$ 90 million project will be completed in the coming months.
