Aerospace sector will be a priority in Sheinbaum’s government

MEXICO - The aerospace industry will receive a series of stimuli for being considered a priority during the government of Claudia Sheinbaum, who has instructed the Ministry of Economy to promote the development of this sector, which exports more than US$9.8 billion in goods.

The Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard, referred that the rapid growth of the aerospace industry, as well as the sophisticated and specialized activities it requires, are reasons to underpin its consolidation in the country.

“We put together a team to support the aerospace industry because it creates an ecosystem that is growing and allows you to advance in sophisticated industrial activities, it is a priority area,” said Ebrard.

In Mexico there are around 300 companies in the industry, which produce some components used in commercial aircraft, satellites and other elements related to the aerospace industry.

Regions such as Chihuahua, Querétaro and Baja California are some of the most consolidated in the country, with increasingly specific and high-tech manufacturing.

Mexico's aerospace industry has grown exponentially in recent years. In 2023 alone, it reached record export figures estimated at US$9.5 billion, which is why countries such as the United States have begun to pay more attention to its development.

Currently, the aerospace industry has begun to detonate local supply chains, which can strengthen economies. For example, in the area that shares Reynosa, Tamaulipas and McAllen, Texas, there are companies that have already become involved in providing services to large aerospace companies, such as Space X.
