Altos Hornos de Mexico (AHMSA) is ready to invest US$70 million on the construction of a new natural gas-powered electric energy plant with a 100-megawatts capacity, said Luis Zamudio, General Director of the Company. The executive underscored that this new complex will be located in Monclova, Coahuila, with expectations to complete 100% of the Firm's electric needs under the self-supply scheme. In addition, Zamudio said that they are teaming up with Caterpillar to develop a system that will enable the utilization of natural gas (also known as grisu gas) obtained from coal mines, to be used in their electric plants, with the objective of cutting down pollutants emissions while lowering costs.
