Alten starts construction of 350 MW photovoltaic plant in Aguascalientes
Spain-based Alten Renewable Energy, in partnership with Cubico Sustainable Investments, started building a 350 MW photovoltaic (PV) plant in the municipality of El Llano, Aguascalientes, a project which local authorities claim to be the largest PV facility in Latin America.
The Cubico Alten Aguascalientes Solar PV Project will consist of two facilities adjacent to each other with installed capacities of 180 MW and 170 MW and 1,050,000 solar modules spread across a 1,000-hectare surface.
Its output will be enough to supply clean power for more than 100,000 households, avoiding emissions of 362,068 tons of carbon dioxide, said the Aguascalientes state government in a press release.
The project will require a total investment close to US$ 368 million. The first facility, called Solem I, is expected to become operational by the end of September 2018, while Solem II is coming online by June 2019.
