Auto sales decrease 3.3% in Mexican market during April

Mexican auto dealers sold 114,477 light vehicles in April, a 3.3% fall compared to 118,407 units sold during same month from 2016, Mexican Auto Dealers Association (AMDA) revealed. Sales for the first four months of 2017 totaled 492,725 cars and trucks, up 5.8% when compared to the 465,733 vehicles sold over the same period of 2016.

Nissan remains as the leading brand in the Mexican market with 27,434 vehicles, but its figure show a 4.6% fall compared to the 28,750 cars the Japanese automaker sold in April 2016.

General Motors took a distant second place totaling 19,584 vehicles sold, which represented a 14.6% dip against the 22,930 units from the previous year. 

Volkswagen was the third best-selling brand in the ranking with 17,228 units, 12.1% less than the 19,593 vehicles sold in April 2016.

Asian automakers performed considerably better in the fourth month of 2017. Toyota sold 9,009 vehicles, a 16.6% hike compared to the 7,729 cars, pickups and SUV sold the year before.

South Korean brand Kia kept its fast-growing pace totaling 7,210 vehicles, a 78.8% increase from the 4,033 units it sold on April 2016. Meanwhile, Honda reported a 11% increase at 6,710 vehicles.

Fiat Chrysler Automobile reported a sales drop of 8.5% at 6,702 units while Ford had the weakest results of all with 5,955 vehicles, a 20.9% drop.

Mazda sold 3,830 vehicles last month and Hyundai totaled 3,205 units, meaning increases of 5.5% and 5.0% respectively.
