The automotive industry is accelerating in the race for production and exports, in the face of President Trump's threats to put the brakes to the Mexican automotive market expansion. According to the Mexican Association of the Automotive Industry (AMIA), car assembly operations grew by 11% in February with annual rate, and foreign sales expanded by 9.7%. Light vehicles sold by Mexico to foreign countries were sent mainly to the U.S. (75% of total exports); followed by Canada with 9.1%, and Germany with 2.8%.
