Avocado generates more income than hydrocarbons

Foreign commerce of oil and oil products left Mexico with a US$13.16 billion deficit in 2016, while the “green gold” had a US$2.22 billion surplus, according to the Ministry of Economy. In Michoacan, the main avocado-growing State, producers are not afraid of the NAFTA renewal, for they are positive that exports will not decrease and that the U.S. will maintain the demand for avocado; however, they are looking for new markets and making the most out of the diversification they are already achieving.
