BMW announces date for start of construction of battery production center in SLP

SAN LUIS POTOSI - One year after its initial announcement, BMW confirms the date for the start of construction of the High Voltage Battery Production Center at its plant in San Luis Potosí.

The German firm invested 800 million euros in this project, allocating 500 million specifically for the construction of this center.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for May 3, marking a milestone in the evolution of the automotive industry in Mexico.

This battery center will be integrated within the same plant, located in the Potosi territory, underscoring BMW's commitment to efficiency and the integration of advanced technologies in its manufacturing processes.

With an area of 85,000 square meters, the complex is a key element in the development of the Bajío industrial corridor, located in the Logistik II industrial park in the municipality of Villa de Reyes.

BMW's investment involves not only the construction of the center, but also the expansion of its property, with the government of the state of Potosí providing a donation of 20 additional hectares adjacent to the current area.

BMW's comprehensive project aims to start production of electric cars with lithium batteries in early 2027, with a projected capacity of 175,000 vehicles.

This initiative not only represents a commitment to sustainable mobility, but also a significant boost to the regional economy, generating employment and promoting technological innovation in the region.

With this investment, BMW reaffirms its commitment to the transition to electric mobility and its confidence in Mexico's potential as a key player in the global automotive industry.

The May 3 ceremony will mark the beginning of a new era for the San Luis Potosí plant and for the future of sustainable mobility in the country.
