BMW’s new plant in San Luis Potosi will be a magnet for the supply chain

SAN LUIS POTOSI – After BMW announced its investment to produce electric cars and batteries, Marek Martin Meister, President of the Automotive Cluster of San Luis Potosi, indicated that this will be a reference for many other companies looking to invest in Mexico.

He mentioned that in San Luis Potosi there are already companies that can be suppliers of the BMW plant, since there are already factories specialized in the production of battery cells, and engines.

The President indicated that it is difficult to predict how many more companies will set up in the state to be suppliers for the new BMW plant. However, it is estimated that for each plant, up to 20 suppliers will arrive seeking to be close to the buyer.

The new plant will start with 500 jobs, but plans to increase to 1,000 or more, which will be high quality jobs because highly qualified engineers are needed to produce electric cars.

The directive pointed out that the production of the cars, as well as the batteries, will require personnel specialized in electronics and systems engineering, among others.
