The Bosch plant in Queretaro, where the company manufactures steering columns for Volkswagen and Audi, will end the year with an additional production line to the three it currently operates, managers of the facility announced to local media in recent days.

In fact, the forecast looks so good, that there is the possibility of adding two more production lines during 2020, said Jeeva Kumar, plant vice president, during a conference to commemorate the start of its second year of operations.

Located in the AeroTech industrial park, the Queretaro plant is the first in Mexico belonging to the Automotive Steering division. The site was inaugurated in December 2017 after an US$ 80 million investment.

Since its opening the plant has been consolidating its operations until it reached its current staff of 200 workers. If the three additional lines are completed, the staff will increase to nearly 500 people, the official added.

With a surface area of over 15,000 square meters, the plant houses assembly operations for Dual Pinion Servotronic electrically assisted steering components.

Such system enables driver assistance function as well as only uses power when the driver turns the wheel so that when travelling a straight path, power tends to stay at zero, resulting in reduced fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Kumar said the plant operates without being affected by trade issues because the total production at this facility goes to assembly plants within the country.
