Mexican airport’s cargo traffic grew during 2018

MEXICO — In 2018, seven of the eight main airports that reported cargo traffic in Mexico ended up with growth, except for San Luis Potosí, which was the only one reporting a decrease in volume, according to numbers from Dirección General de Aeronáutica Civil (DGAC).

 

 According to data from DGAC, Aeropuerto Intercontinental de Querétaro reported the highest growth in 2018, after finishing with 53,289 tons, 49% more than the 35,767 tons reported in 2017. Tijuana ranks on 2nd place with 27,171 tons, which meant an increase of 20% in proportion to the 22,679 tons of 2017.

 

 The third airport with the largest increase in cargo traffic was Toluca, adding 36,491 tons, which resulted in a difference of 17% compared to the 31,159 tons of the previous year.

 

The airport of Cancun, meanwhile, ended 2018 with a traffic of 32,858 tons, which, compared to 29,714 tons in 2017, generated an increase of 11%.

 

 On the other hand, Aeropuerto Internacional de la Ciudad de México had a growth of 9% when comparing the 581,675 tons of 2018 compared to the 535,622 tons of the previous year.

 

Meanwhile, Monterrey and Guadalajara reported the lowest growth, after Nuevo León reached 56,282 tons, 6% more than the 52,867 tons in 2017. Guadalajara added 164,242 tons, an increase of 3% compared to the 159,220 tons of the year that preceded.

 

 At the same time, San Luis Potosí reported 24,760 tons, a difference of -7% compared to the 26,550 tons in 2017, being the only airport of the eight to report a fall in volume handled.
