++pirelli++ Pirelli invests US$300 million in Mexico

Silao, Coahuila.- Pirelli, the Italian tires company, started operations in their new plant located in Silao, Guanajuato, where US$300 million were invested to produce 3.5 million tires in the first stage, expected to end in 2015. By the time it reaches full production, in 2017, they will manufacture 5.5 million tires per year. 
President Felipe Calderon and Marco Tronchetti Provera, Pirelli’s President and CEO attended the inauguration. This new Pirelli plant is the first one in Mexico and number 22 in the world, and is mainly focused on premium tires segment, manufacturing high and ultra-high performance tires for SUV’s, to be sold in the domestic market and NAFTA area. 
The factory was built on a 135,000 square meters (1,453,122 sq. ft.) and its capacity will reach 400,000 units by the end of this year.
