WHAT IS THE CURRENT SITUATION ON INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT IN CHIHUAHUA?

The strategy for promoting competitive advantages in the State is to attract and develop new investment projects. We are doing this in order to integrate the supply chains and generate wealth for all of the communities in Chihuahua, with a special commitment to the areas less economically developed. .
The following achievements resulted from the previous strategy: Chihuahua is ranked 1st nationwide in regard to the creation of new jobs in the manufacturing sector.
It can boast having 17.7% of the nation's total. Chihuahua is home to many 75 Fortune 500 companies and home to some of the main CEM´s in the world.
Chihuahua is the national leader in the production of lead and comes in second in gold, silver and zinc. It is one of the largest aluminum wheel producers in the world.
Chihuahua is ranked 2nd nationwide regarding manufacturing and Foreign Direct Investment with 9.3 % of the national's total.
This represents more than the sum of the FDI in 23 states. An interesting datum is that a refrigerator is produced every 14 seconds in the State.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGES THAT CHIHUAHUA CAN USE TO ATTRACT FOREIGN INVESTMENT?

The State of Chihuahua is one of the most competitive locations for attracting foreign direct investment. This is due to joint work in the different sectors of society, working to develop state of the art technological and educational infrastructure. We are also good at fi nding the appropriate mechanisms to offer different industrial incentives and support programs to provide for a "soft landing". This effort, along with the competitive advantages the State offers, places Chihuahua as the leader of industrial development in Mexico for manufacturing exports.
In terms of location, we feature an unparalleled strategic location with direct access to the North American Market. We have the longest continuous border with the U.S. We have a high quality and highly skilled work force with more than 40 years of experience in value added industries. Other attractive features are competitive labor costs with world-class talent, expertise and fl exibility and, we have stable labor relations.
Our business environment has attractive investment policies and incentives with active government support to investors with preferential access to more than 1,057 million consumers in 44 countries. This has been accomplished through 12 free trade agreements. Chihuahua has an excellent infrastructure developed to world class standards. It features state-of-the-art facilities, modern industrial parks and industrial developers who help give new enterprises a "soft landing".
In Chihuahua you will fi nd impressive industrial clusters, strong engineering and R&D capabilities and every size of original equipment manufacturers and specialized suppliers.
Also, the quality of life features a traditionally rich culture and Latino hospitality.
There are excellent education and healthcare facilities and we have a safe environment, in addition to great leisure facilities.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE MOST IMPORTANT INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS HAVING RECENTLY LANDED IN CHIHUAHUA?

In Juarez there are two facilities of Electrolux, Via Systems, Aligntech, Visteon, Affinia, Delphi, Cardinal Health, Plexus and Swo Copin. In Chihuahua we now have Kamman Aerospace, two Hawker Beechcraft facilities, Bloom Energy and Arnprior. There are also Gemini Plastics, DTR, Souriau, BE Aerospace, Metal Finishing Co., plus CAV Ice Protection, Sofi , Victaulic, and Zodiac Webber. For the rest of the State you will fi nd Leoni Cable, Cardinal Health Lear and Yazaki.

IS THERE ANY ADDITIONAL FOREIGN INDUSTRIAL INVESTMENT IN CHIHUAHUA TO BE EXPECTED IN THE NEAR FUTURE?

We are expecting several industrial projects to be established in Chihuahua. These will represent an investment of more than US$700 Million and create over 15,000 jobs.

WHAT IS THE FUTURE OF THE MANUFACTURING INDUSTRY IN CHIHUAHUA?

Among the main industrial sectors we may mention the electric-electronic, automotive-auto parts, agroindustry, and medical fi rms. According to their successful background in these sectors and the high concentration of leading companies and their suppliers established in Chihuahua, there is a great opportunity for diversifi cation of industrial activities. This moves us toward great new sectors with potential for development in the State. Some of these are renewable energies and information technologies.
