Chihuahua records the third highest economic growth in Mexico

CHIHUAHUA – The state of Chihuahua recorded a historic growth of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) during 2022, ranking third among the states with the highest growth, with 8.1%.

This growth represents an advance of 12 places with respect to 2021, when it ranked fifteenth.

According to data published by the National Institute of Statistics, Geography and Informatics (INEGI), Chihuahua accounted for 3.8% of the national GDP. It is worth mentioning that such significant annual growth had not been recorded since 2012.

Chihuahua’s GDP growth was due to an increase in production in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors. In the primary sector, the entity was the fourth fastest growing, with 10.5%. In the secondary sector, growth was 7.1%, and in the tertiary sector, 6.5%.

In terms of gross value added by sector, in the primary sector, the state contributed 6.6% of the national total, placing it in sixth place among the country’s states. In the secondary sector, Chihuahua contributed 5.1% of the national total, placing it in seventh place. In the tertiary sector, the state’s contribution to the national total was 2.9%, which placed it in tenth place in the ranking of states.

In nominal terms, the entities with the highest contribution to national GDP were: Mexico City, State of Mexico, Nuevo Leon, Jalisco, Guanajuato, Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave, Coahuila de Zaragoza, Baja California, Chihuahua, Sonora and Puebla.
