Costco, America’s largest membership-only chain store, opened today its first gas station in Mexico, adding to a streak of foreign companies entering the Mexican fuel market in less than a year.
The gas station is next to a Costco store located in San Luis Potosi, it took a US$ 3 million investment to begin operations. More stations are planned to open in the states of Yucatan and Sinaloa over the next months.
The facility will serve members and non-members as well, but will offer discounts and refunds to those who pay with Costco cards.
In Mexico, Costco has 37 stores in 21 states and a customer base of 4.3 million members.
