Beverage packaging specialist Crown Holdings today officially opened a new production facility in the Municipality of Juarez, Nuevo Leon, in Northern Mexico. This is Crown’s fifth plant in Mexico dedicated to manufacture of aluminum cans and overall its sixth production site in the country.
The company invested US$ 75 million in order to start operations with a 1.2 billion cans annual output. However, Crown plans to invest an additional US$ 45 million over the next two years for a second production line which will increase the capacity to 2.3 billion cans per year.
Around 160 jobs will be created once the facility becomes fully operational, according to company officials at the ribbon-cutting ceremony. Â
Crown operates five beverage-can plants and one glass bottle plant in Mexico. Another glass bottle facility in Chihuahua is scheduled for start-up in the first half of 2018. Both Juarez and Chihuahua facilities will supply cans and bottles for Heineken breweries and other customers in Northern Mexico and South of the United States.
