DB Schenker announced ina press release that it has opened a new facility in Laredo, Texas, with 30,960 square feet of logistics management space, including 1,874 sq. ft. of office space.
The new warehouse, which is located in the Killiam Industrial Park near the World Trade Bridge, supports another 150,000 sq. ft. facility that DB Schenker opened in Houston in 2015.
Both facilities support customers' cross-border business and the complex compliance requirements needed to import freight into Mexico and the United States. The new Laredo facility will become a certified Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) in October 2016, with a dedicated Customs Broker/Import Manager on site. This will enable customers to store bonded cargo.
"The State of Texas has a 1,254-mile long border with Mexico," observes Robert Walpole, CEO of Schenker Inc. "That makes it the largest port-of-entry for goods traveling from Mexico into the United States and vice versa. Laredo is the biggest border crossing point in Texas with approximately 12,000 trucks crossing every day. DB Schenker's Laredo facility will streamline and expedite this flow of cross-border goods."
Nearly 50% of all northbound and southbound crossings take place in Laredo, making it an ideal location for DB Schenker to offer freight forwarding and brokerage services to its more than 730,000 customers worldwide.
