A draft version of an executive order to withdraw the U.S. from NAFTA is under review and could be unveiled by the end this week or early next week, news outlet Politico revealed today citing two White House officials as its sources.

The head of Trump’s National Trade Council, Peter Navarro, drafted the executive order in close cooperation with White House chief strategist Steve Bannon. The document appears to be designed to extract better terms from a negotiation with Canada and Mexico.

“The effort, which still could change in the coming days as more officials weigh in, would indicate the administration’s intent to withdraw from the sweeping pact by triggering the timeline set forth in the deal,” says Politico in its report.
