Fermaca to invest US$3.7 billion in Durango

The Mexican company Fermaca will invest US$3.7 billion in Durango to build a fertilizer plant and a digital city that includes a gas pipeline from Texas, a combined cycle plant, a data center and fiber optics.

“It's a total of US$3.7 billion. We are talking about thousands of jobs in the state,” announced Mexico's Secretary of Economy, Marcelo Ebrard

The investment is divided into two projects, the first is an agronitrogen fertilizer plant in the municipality of Lerdo to replace imports, as explained by Fernando Calvillo, co-president and co-founder of Fermaca, which specializes in infrastructure.

The remaining US$2.7 billion will be used to create a digital city with four components: a 200,000 kilometer long-range dark fiber optic network, a 250 megawatt data center, a combined cycle electric generation plant and a 160 kilometer natural gas pipeline.

The investment is announced in the framework of the “Plan Mexico” presented by Sheinbaum in January, which involves a strategy together with the private sector for the Mexican economy to reach the top 10 worldwide and materialize at least US$277 billion in investments despite the tariffs of the President of the United States, Donald Trump.
