Five young Mexicans will spend time at NASA
MEXICO - Five Mexican students will begin internships at the U.S. space agency (NASA), informed the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transport (SICT), through the Mexican Space Agency (AEM).
Through a press release, the federal agency announced that for the first time they will participate in stays at the Goddard Space Flight Center, as was already being done at the Ames Research Center. This specialized training, now at two NASA centers, is part of the strengthening of the joint educational agenda with Mexico.
Salvador Landeros Ayala, Director General of the AEM, explained that the students were selected by NASA after a public call opened last February.
Elizabeth del Rosario Salas, Brandon Kevin Ramírez Rosales, Christian Chacón Valdez, Diego Jiménez, and Flavio Cesar Nieto Ruíz, will carry out their research stays, with the commitment to share their knowledge in Mexico upon their return.
The AEM emphasized that the objective of this commitment is to contribute to the vision of transforming Mexico into a space power with specialized education, since the new generations will be in charge of the development of Mexico's future satellite infrastructure.
He explained that the collaboration agreement between the AEM and NASA allows up to five students per each call, with the support of their home institutions, to carry out four-month research stays at these centers under the supervision of engineers and scientists from the space agency.
