Ford Performance of Europe Director, Leo Roeks, confirmed to CarBuzz at the Frankfurt International Auto Show there will be no next-generation Ford Fiesta in the U.S. market.

“It’s simply a matter of a lack of interest in the B-segment in America. It doesn’t make sense, nor is it possible financially,” Roeks said.

Joe Hinrichs, Ford's head of global operations, has also talked about the need to reshape the automaker's lineup, and the Fiesta could be the easiest to cut. Sales have plummeted and the arrival of the EcoSport subcompact crossover next year makes the business case for the Mexico-built unit even more difficult.

While the future for the Mexico-made Fiesta has been decided, it’s still unclear what will happen to the Cuatitlan Assembly Plant where the compact car is built.

According to Just-auto.com, a C-segment crossover slotted between the EcoSport and Escape will debut in 2019 and it's likely to be built in Mexico. But the automaker has yet to decide whether it will be manufactured at the Cuautitlan or the Hermosillo plant.
