Ford has trademarked once again the Maverick nameplate but the iconic car might not be back in the near future at least in form of sedan or coupe, but as a small SUV or crossover.

According to Autoblog, who broke the story in recent days, Ford applied for registration of the Maverick trademark in December 2016 and was finally granted last month along with the Timberline name.

Given that Ford is currently shifting its catalog to get rid of low-profit sedans, opening more room for pickups and SUVS, Autoblog points out that the Maverick name could fit well on a “baby Bronco”.
