Ford Motor Company started recruitment for its new transmission plant scheduled to start operations by the end of this year in Irapuato, according to local media.

At least 300 candidates attended a job fair organized by labor state officials, who helped the job applicants fill the required paperwork, while Ford personnel conducted interviews.

Ford spent US$ 1.2 billion to build a transmission plant within the premises of a facility used by transmission supplier and partner Getrag, located in the city of Irapuato in the state of Guanajuato. The project will create 2,000 jobs.

The new transmission plant —Ford’s first transmission facility in Mexico— will produce two all-new automatic transmissions for key products primarily in South America, Europe and Asia Pacific as well as other North American markets.

Production capacity is expected to reach 850,000 units per year.

Ford has 11,300 employees in Mexico and builds the Ford Fiesta in Cuautitlan, State of Mexico, while the Fusion and Lincoln MKZ are assembled in Hermosillo, Sonora.
