Ford will stop production in Hermosillo

HERMOSILLO – Ford will stop production in both shifts at its plant in Hermosillo, Sonora, due to a material shortage problem.

It is worth mentioning that manufacturing was also suspended at this complex located in the state of Sonora, where the Bronco Sport SUV and the Maverick pickup, which is mainly exported to the United States, are assembled.

The statement does not specify whether it is a lack of semiconductors, but the strike is taking place while the automotive industry continues to face a global shortage of chips, partly because its manufacturers dedicated the production of these parts to laptops, cell phones and video games during the pandemic.

In September, automobile production and exports in Mexico plummeted due to failures linked to the shortage of this input.

The Mexican Automotive Industry Association (AMIA) anticipated falls of up to 4.2% this year in shipments abroad and up to 5% in manufacturing compared to the 2020 result.
