French oil & gas company Total inaugurated its first gas station in Mexico, in partnership with Gasored, as part of a plan that includes 250 service stations under its brand in the next two years.

Alexandre Duret-Proux, chairman of Total in Mexico, said that the supply of fuel will be improved with additives from the company to achieve international quality standards.

He also said that the opening of the 250 stations in the next two years will be centered in states such as State of Mexico, Hidalgo, Queretaro, Guerrero, Morelos, Puebla, Tlaxcala and Mexico City. In this region, the company expects to grab a 15% market share in the short term.

Victor Suarez, president of the Gasored group, said that they will adopt the French business model, so in the future they will include coffee shops, solar panels and charging centers for electric vehicles.

According to the Energy Regulatory Commission (CRE), there are around 11,774 service stations in the country, of which 2,178 operate under 32 new brands.

The regulator estimates that the number of service stations in the national territory could double in the coming years and add 12,000 more gas stations, attracting investments for up to US$ 12 billion.
