German automotive electronics and lightning components supplier Hella KGaA Hueck & Co., better known as HELLA, inaugurated its eighth manufacturing facility in Mexico.

The ribbon cutting ceremony took place last week in the Amexhe industrial park, located in the municipality of Apaseo El Grande, Guanajuato, where the company invested US$12 million and recruited 250 workers in order to start its first phase of operations.

The facility, dedicated to the production of body control modules, driver assistance systems, and lightning components, is expected to grow its workforce to a total 650 strong once it becomes fully operational. The total investment planned for the site remains undisclosed.

This is HELLA's fourth plant in Guanajuato. The company already operates a facility in the municipality of San Jose Iturbide and two production sites in Irapuato. Also in Guanajuato, HELLA operates two design centers, each one dedicated to the development of lighting and electronics components.

According to state authorites, HELLA's total investment in Guanajuato exceeds US$150 million with the new plant.

The company also owns manufacturing facilities in the municipalities of El Salto and Tlaquepaque, in the state of Jalisco, as well as in Cuautitlan Izcalli and Tlalnepantla, in the state of Mexico.

Overall the company’s workforce in Mexico is about 7,000 employees.
