GM agree to 10.22% wage increase at Silao plant

The National Independent Union of Automotive Industry Workers (SINTTIA) reached an agreement with General Motors for a 10.22% salary increase at its Silao, Guanajuato plant, as part of its contractual review.

The agreement includes differentiated increases by category. More than 60% of the workforce, divided into four categories, will receive a 10.25% increase, while the remaining 40% will receive a 9.25% increase. In addition, the elimination of the lowest category of the salary tabulator raised the starting salary by 33.95%.

“This increase means that more than 60% of the plant's workers will achieve remunerations above the family labor poverty line, according to Coneval parameters, a goal that SINTTIA has worked for since it won union representation in this company in 2022,” said Alejandra Morales Reynoso, SINTTIA's General Secretary.

The increase is the second highest in the automotive industry and marks the second occasion in which the overall double digit is exceeded in more than 30 years, setting a significant precedent in the sector.

Morales Reynoso emphasized that this achievement was achieved despite the uncertainty generated by the changes in the trade policies of the USMCA and its possible effects on the regional economy.

He stressed that workers are the true engine of the industry and have demonstrated record productivity levels that have generated extraordinary profits for corporations, reaffirming the strength of productive integration in the region.
