Grupo Marva has a pilot project for electric freight transportation

MONTERREY - Grupo Marva's Deléctrico division has a pilot project for electric freight transportation for the Monterrey-Texas corridor.

Lorena Martínez, director of Deléctrico and secretary of Electromobility at Canacar, said that currently it is exploring the possibility of implementing a hybrid model on the route from Monterrey to Nuevo Laredo, with electric tractor-trailers that will travel between 250 and 300 kilometer.

“We have a pilot project that is working on the Monterrey-Texas corridor, specifically the Monterrey Nuevo Laredo route, we are exploring the idea of a hybrid model to use our electric fleet for short transfers, that is, 250 to 300 kilometers,” said Martinez.

“We already have a recharging station in Monterrey and we are about to open a station in Nuevo Laredo in April of this year, with this we will achieve that the route will be with electric heavy vehicles and once in the border area with Laredo, Texas, we will look for Cross Dock areas, which can make the technology transfer and can be done with internal combustion vehicles,” she added.

However, she emphasized that this is a “transitional solution”, which brings them closer and closer to completing these routes in this area of high logistic density, with electric tractor-trailers from the Asian shipbuilder BYD.

Thus, they could eventually make the cross-border crossing with electric freight transport, since BYD has all the specification both in connection protocol, as in the DOT (United States Department of Transportation), which would allow the free transit of these tractor-trailers.

The Deléctrico division of the Marva Group has a fleet of 60 electric tractor-trailers (last mile), also provides recharging infrastructure and complements the ecosystem with electric charging stations.
