Grupo Modelo to open US$756-million brewery in Hidalgo by early March
Anheuser-Busch InBev Mexican subsidiary, Grupo Modelo, announced it will officially open its newest brewery in Mexico on March 4.
The US$756-million facility, located in the municipality of Apan, Hidalgo, will start operations with an initial output capacity of 12 million hectoliters, equivalent to producing 9.25 million bottles of 355 milliliters (12 Oz) each day. Such capacity is slated to double in the coming years.
The Apan brewery will add 9% more output to Grupo Modelo overall production capacity in Mexico over the next years. The facility is slated to double its output to 24 million hectoliters in the near term.
Along with the production plan the opening of more than 1,200 job positions is expected.
According to research firm Euromonitor International, Grupo Modelo is the leading brewer in Mexico with a 57.3% market share followed by Cervecería Cuauhtemoc Moctezuma, a subsidiary of Heineken, which holds a 40.4% share.
