The Mexican company Grupomar is venturing into the sardine market before the end of the year, by investing US$8 million on the construction of a plant in Ensenada, Baja California, and three new fishing boats. The new plant will have initially the capacity to capture at least 20,000 tons of sardine per year, which may increase because the Company has plans to buy from other companies or fishermen, since Ensenada has more than 20 fishing boats. He specified that the operation of this factory might start next November and that it will employ 300 people in the area, thus bringing Grupomar to close 2017 with more than 3,000 job positions in Ensenada and Manzanillo, Colima.
