Guanajuato Companies on Trade Agenda with Texas

The Guanajuato State Foreign Trade Promotion Agency (Cofoce) accompanied business leaders from the state on a series of business visits to McAllen and Pharr, Texas, during which 12 companies sought to establish relationships with 18 international buyers of fresh produce, with projected sales of more than US$3.1 million.

According to government reports, the partnership was finalized in August at a business meeting held at the McAllen Convention Center, in collaboration with CIL Fresh, RioPlex, and the McAllen government.

During the visit, participants toured 11 warehouses and distribution centers, where business leaders observed firsthand the processes for receiving, storing, and distributing fresh produce. Additionally, market opportunities were identified for crops such as broccoli, lettuce, carrots, celery, tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, and chili peppers.

The event allowed business owners to learn about the safety standards, certifications, and logistics processes required by the U.S. market, as well as to consider the life cycle of their products once they have crossed the border.

In the first quarter of 2026, Guanajuato recorded US$10 billion in exports, of which the agri-food sector accounted for 6.8%, equivalent to US$704 million between January and March. The sector comprises 218 exporting companies across 32 municipalities, offering a range of fresh, frozen, and processed products, as well as grains, beverages, animal products, and natural byproducts.
