Phoenix-based Honeywell Aerospace announced a US$ 15 million investment on wind tunnel technology for its Mexicali plant. The company started operations in the border city in 1979. Currently, Honeywell Aerospace Mexicali has 2,000 employees within its campus, with an expected growth of 2,200 in 2018.

Baja California is home to over 70 aerospace and defense firms and 28,000 jobs in the sector. The local cluster represents a US$ 2.1 Billion opportunity to supply local industry demand on high precision machining, heat treatment, casting and forges, and special processes.

Its counterpart, San Diego, is a North American aerospace hub. Here are based some of the world's largest aerospace, aircraft and R&D companies, which are part of an aerospace, navigation, and maritime technologies cluster that directly employs more than 33,000 people in San Diego county alone.
