Spanish utility Iberdrola plans to build its first solar park in Mexico, of 200 MW in total, with the project being in the very early stage, El Economista reported.

The company already has 5.4 GW of operational capacity in the country, including 367 MW wind and 4.84 GW of combined-cycle gas. Its first photovoltaic (PV) power plant will be located in Cuyoaco and Ocotepec municipalities, spreading on 755 hectares.

Iberdrola said in July it has seven power plants under construction in Mexico, including two combined cycle plants and one cogeneration plant of a combined 650 MW that will be operational by end-2016.

Globally, the company has a project portfolio of 1 GW in solar energy, of which 550 MW are in advance state of development.
