STATE OF MEXICO — IKEA Mexico announced the construction of its first distribution center in the country, which will focus on the electronics trade and will begin operations the next year.

The new distribution center, of more than 15,000 square meters, will be located in the north of the State of Mexico and will supply the first IKEA store in Mexico City, as well as online sales and home delivery services.

Through a statement, the Swedish company explained that the CEVA Logistics company will be in charge of the construction of the distribution center.

"During the construction process, we estimate a total of 450 jobs generated directly by the project; between 60 and 65% of these job positions will be occupied by people in the area," said Malcolm Pruys, retail country manager of IKEA Mexico.

"We hope this distribution center to be one of the most important for IKEA Oceania, as it will deliver products to the store, to online sales and to home orders," added Malcolm Pruys.

The first IKEA store in Mexico forecasts the creation of up to 370 direct jobs and around 1,000 indirect job positions.
