Prime Wheel, an aluminum wheel manufacturer which supplies both automakers and aftermarket businesses, announced plans to invest US$ 170 million to expand operations in Tijuana, reported El Economista this week.

The company started operations at the border city in 2010 and has invested US$ 180 million so far at its 700,000 square-feet facility. With a workforce of 3,700 workers the company manufactures 5 million wheels a year, says the report by El Economista.

The expansion project includes a whole new facility and is expected to create 1,159 new jobs to boost local capacity 50% to 7.5 million units.

Some of Prime Wheel main customers are Daimler, FCA, Ford, BMW, Tesla, GM and Nissan.
