Nemak, the global auto supplier specialized in aluminum components, currently invests about US$ 150 million in two machining facilities that are already in operation and in another one that is under construction in the municipality of Garcia, Nuevo Leon.

These investments are part of a strategy to move from the manufacture of engine blocks and cylinder heads to the production of structural parts and aluminum components for electric vehicles, said Armando Tamez Martinez, General Manager of the Nuevo Leon’s Grupo Alfa automotive division.

"In the Powertrain segment we want to have more machining (original) content that gives us greater added value," said Tamez Martínez during a guided visit for El Economista to the new high-pressure die casting (HPDC) facility in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.

The company currently does 50% of the machined work internally and by 2020 the goal is to have 70% internal machining and 30% external, said the official.
