Here’s how sales of Mexico-made cars ended up during November in the US market

Despite the strong demand of SUVs and pickups, some Mexico-made compact cars are likely to end 2017 with sales increases such as the Nissan Sentra, the Kia Forte and the Toyota Yaris iA, which is built by Mazda in Guanajuato. The rest of the models are bound to end this year with sales declines of double digit in some cases, official figures show.

The following report does not necessary reflects that each vehicle sold from certain model was built in Mexico. Automakers constantly mix domestic and overseas supplies from several countries to meet U.S. demand.

Audi

Audi of America reported a November sales increase of 12.1% to 19,195 deliveries, as the Q7, new Q5 and the new-to-the U.S. A5 Sportback, lead consumer demand. Audi has now sold 199,534 vehicles in the U.S. this year. Year-to-date, Audi sales have increased 6.7%.

Deliveries of the made-in-Puebla Q5 SUV were up 30.6% during November, to 5,467 units. Year-to-date sales of the Q5 have increased 16.1% to 50,109 vehicles. For most of the year, the Mexico-made SUV has been Audi’s best-selling vehicle in the U.S.

FCA

FCA reported sales of 154,919 units, a 4% decrease compared with sales in November 2016. Retail sales of 129,539 units were up 2% compared with the same month in 2016 and represented 84% of total. FCA sold 1,887,430 vehicles from January through November, down 8% compared to the same 11-month period of 2016.

Sales of the Toluca-made Jeep Compass totaled 9,368 in its ninth month since it entered the U.S. market. The Dodge Journey saw its sales decline 32% in November to 4,868 units, while year-to-date sales totaled 85,243 vehicles, down 12%.

Monthly sales of RAM pickups saw a flat result to 36,714 units, while year-to-date deliveries show a 3% growth of 455,816 vehicles. RAM pickups are built in both Mexico and the U.S. The Fiat 500 also saw its sales decline 32% to 782 vehicles, while year-to-date sales are 14% down to 12,018.

Ford

Ford Motor Company’s U.S. sales increased 6.7% last month to 210,771 vehicles. Retail performance was up 1.3% versus a year ago, on sales of 156,064 units, a 74.1% of total. Ford sold 2,344,666 vehicles from January through November, down 1.3%.

Sales of the Ford Fiesta totaled 3,035 units in November, up 6.6%. Year-to-date sales are at 42,592 vehicles, a 5.4% decrease. Most Ford Fiestas for the U.S. market are built in Cuautitlan, State of Mexico.

Ford Fusion monthly sales totaled 14,901 vehicles, down 15.1%, while year-to-date sales fell 22.1% to 192,179 units. The Lincoln MKZ saw its sales sink 23.7% to 1,939 units in November, and decreased 10% to 25,094 vehicles on a year-to-date basis. Both models are built in Hermosillo, Sonora.

General Motors reported total sales of 245,387 vehicles in the U.S. during November, down 2.9%. Retail sales totaled 197,340 units, a flat result compared to November 2016 and represented an 80.4% of total. Year-to-date sales totaled 2,693,702 units, a 1.1% decrease.

Last May, production of the all-new Chevrolet Equinox started in two Mexican facilities, GM delivered 19,667 units in November. The Equinox is also built in Canada.

Chevrolet Cruze sales totaled 10,982 units, including sedan and hatchback versions, meaning a 33.1% decrease. Only the hatchback version is made in Mexico. Silverado sales increased 2.6% to 46,441 units while GMC Sierra deliveries fell 4% to 18,136 units. GM builds in Mexico crew cab versions of both trucks.

The Chevrolet Trax sales sank 19.6% to 6,595 crossovers. It’s been four months since the all-new GMC Terrain arrived to auto dealers, with 7,598 of those sold in November over the U.S. market.

Honda

Honda reported November sales of 133,156 Honda and Acura vehicles, an increase of 8.3% over same month of 2016 and a new November record for the company. Honda Division reported an increase of 8.2% on total sales of 120,440 for a best-ever November. Acura Division sales climbed 9.5% in November to 12,716 units. Total sales from January through November increased 1% to 1,492,112 units.

The compact hatchback Honda Fit saw a 35% decline in November sales, totaling 2,799 units. From January through November the Fit totaled sales of 46,020 units, down 11.8%. Monthly sales of the HR-V crossover also fell 24.4% to 6,153 units. Year-to-date sales totaled 86,491 units, up 18.5%.

Kia/Hyundai

Kia announced November sales of 44,302 vehicles, a 15.6% decline compared to same month of 2016. Year-to-date sales totaled 546,629 units, down 7.8%. Its sister brand Hyundai reported U.S. November sales of 57,211 units including its Hyundai and Genesis brands, a 9% decline. Year-to-date sales are down 12.7% to 621,961 vehicles.

The Kia Rio saw its sales increase 6.4% to 1,533 units in November, while year-to-date sales are down 44.8% to 15,142 cars. Sales of the Forte family increased 3.1% in November to 8,363 vehicles, while year-to-date sales are up 14.5% to 109,674 cars. Last August, Kia officially started production of the Hyundai Accent in Nuevo Leon. Its sales totaled 3,624 units during November in the U.S. market.

Mazda

Mazda reported total November U.S. sales of 21,469 vehicles, representing a decrease of 2.6% versus November of last year. Year-to-date sales through November are down 2.4% versus last year, with 262,577 vehicles sold. Sales of the Mazda3 totaled 4,708 units in November, down 26.3%, while year-to-date sales totaled 69,349 vehicles, 20.7% less compared to the same 11-month period of 2016. Both hatchback and saloon versions of the Mazda3 are now being supplied to the U.S. market from the assembly plant at Salamanca, Guanajuato.

Nissan

Nissan Group announced total U.S. sales for November 2017 of 135,985 units including Nissan and Infiniti brands, an increase of 18.1% over the previous year. This marks a November record. Year-to-date sales through November totaled 1,455,238 vehicles, a 3.1% increase.

Nissan sold 7,274 units of its Versa compact car in November, including sedan and the hatchback version known as Versa Note, that figure represents an 8.3% decrease. Year-to-date sales totaled 99,647 units, a 19.2% drop. As for the Nissan Sentra 17,565 units were sold, representing a 25.2% hike. Year-to-date sales totaled 201,617 vehicles, up 2% compared to the firsts 11 months of 2016.

Toyota

Toyota reported November 2017 sales of 191,617 units, a 3% decrease versus same month of 2016. From January through November Toyota sales totaled 2,211,530 units, an increase of 0.2%.

The midsize pickup Tacoma, which is built both in San Antonio, Texas and Tijuana, Mexico, saw sales increase 4.3% to 16,195 units in November. On a year-to-date basis, Tacoma sales are now up 3% to 179,419 units. The Yaris iA, which is built by Mazda in Guanajuato, totaled 2,549 units sold in November, up 51.4%. Year-to-date sales are 30.1% up to 33,819 vehicles.

Volkswagen

Volkswagen reported sales of 29,207 units in November 2017, a 1.6% decrease compared to November 2016. With 309,395 units delivered year-to-date in 2017, the company is reporting an increase of 8.3% in year-over-year sales.

Sales of the Golf family sank 34.1% to 4,276 vehicles. Year-to-date sales totaled 64,449 vehicles, up 22.3%. The Jetta saw a 18.1% decrease to 8,362 vehicles, and a 0.5% increase to 108,574 units from January through November.

VW sold 1,066 Beetle cars in November, down 24%. Year-to-date sales totaled 14,331 units, up 1.8%. November marked the fourth full month of sales for the all-new 2018 Tiguan, which totaled 5,221 units last month and 15,253 vehicles so far. The previous version totaled 1,726 units, down 61.8%, and 23,669 vehicles in a year-to-date basis, which represents a 37.8% drop.
