Around 600 lay-offs expected at GM plant in Coahuila

Around 600 employees of the General Motors plant in Ramos Arizpe, Coahuila will be laid-off in the coming days at the end of a series of halts aimed at reducing production levels due to a decrease in the demand for vehicles in the U.S. market.
Internal sources of the assembly plant confirmed to local media that the production will be normalized in April, minus the number of workers already mentioned. Those employees to be reincorporated into the production process will no longer be able to work overtime and will have at least one mandatory day off each week.
Of the 600 employees dismissed, only 200 belonged to General Motors, while the rest were workers from other supplier companies located within the same cluster.
According to media reports, at least the 200 GM employees were notified from the beginning of their contract that those were temporary positions and that they could probably be hired again in May if the company decides to ramp up production.
